WW1 Named Royal Navy Captains full dress uniform Bicorn, tailcoat, provenance
A Royal Navy dress coat complete with bicorn hat and epaulettes together with japanned tin. The collection was the former uniform of Captain Casper Silas Balfour Swinley B1898 and having served WWI & WWII. DSO 1941, DSC 1940 (NB. A large quantity of related ephemera related to Capt. Swinley included)

Formerly housed in a museum. Loads of provenance and paperwork related to Captain Swinley, Many interesting letters between captain swinley and the museum
Captain Swinley gifted the uniform to his nephew and was shocked to find out his nephew had sold the uniform to a antiques dealer. The antiques dealer then sold the uniform to a gentleman who loaned it to the museum
Swinley was a Special Entry to the Training Establishment on 15 September 1916. Upon passing out in March 1917, he was appointed to the battlecruiser New Zealand. He served in the ship until being sent to join Ceres on 3 February, 1919. He was invalided from the ship in June, suffering from displaced cartilage in his left knee, but returned to her on 8 September upon being declared fit.[1]
Swinley was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 May, 1920.[2]
Swinley was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 May, 1928.[3]
Swinley was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1934.[4]
World War II
Swinley was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1942.[5]
Swinley was placed on the Retired List on 7 July, 1951.[6]
